Trail Highlights: This 4-wheel drive road is moderate with some more difficult sections requiring 4wd low gear, but much more difficult if conditions are wet. Like many roads in the area, it gets very slick when muddy. It follows the Red and White ridgetop offering numerous scenic views from large meadows. Be sure to bring a good map and stay on Forest Service Roads, which are marked with vertical signs. There are many trails in the area which are not open to vehicles. Make sure to reset your odometer at the turn off of Red Sandstone Road. Views of Mt. Powell open up at 1.6 miles. The Buffehr Creek Trail is on the left at approximately 2.0 miles where there are great views of Vail Ski Area and Mt. of the Holy Cross. The first steep climb is at 3.3 miles. Stay right at 4.1 miles and again at 4.3 miles where the Davos Singletrack Trail is on the left and the road takes a long right turn. Go under power lines at 4.6 miles and watch for a fork at 5.9 miles. At this fork, the Red and White Mountain Trail is to the right, which now looks more like a road. Make sure to stay left, even though others have illegally gone right to widen that trail. The Buck Creek Trail is on the left at about 6.4 miles. The Metcalf Creek Road – FSR 779 is on the left at about 8.9 miles. Open views of Beaver Creek Ski Area are found at mile 9.6 just before two more forks at 9.7 and 9.8 miles. Stay right at both. June Creek Road - FSR 717 is on the left at about 11.6 miles. Pass trail #1881 at 12.2 miles and FSR 433 at 12.9 miles. And Moniger Road – FSR 701 is reached at about 14.4 miles. From here, take a right to complete a loop back to Red Sandstone Road or a left 9 miles to get to Highway 131 just north of Wolcott and I-70.
